Dr Matthew Secomb is an independent arbitrator working out of Secomb Arbitration (Singapore/Paris). He has 25 years’ experience in international arbitration, having served as arbitrator or counsel in arbitrations conducted under most of the major arbitral rules, as well as in ad hoc arbitrations.

Matthew is a triple-qualified lawyer, educated and qualified in common and civil law systems (Australia/England & Wales and France/Switzerland). He is qualified as an avocat at the Paris bar, a solicitor-advocate in England & Wales, and a barrister and solicitor in Victoria, Australia.*

He focuses on energy and construction related disputes. He has significant experience with oil & gas (particularly gas/LNG price reviews) and renewables disputes (offshore wind, solar etc).

Before becoming an independent arbitrator in August 2026, Matthew was a partner at White & Case, where he practiced for more than 20 years (between Paris and Singapore). He headed the firm’s International Arbitration Group in the Asia Pacific for some eight years.

Prior to joining White & Case in 2006, Matthew was counsel to the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris. He initially trained at Minter Ellison in Melbourne, Australia.

Matthew is an Adjunct Professor at NUS Law in Singapore (energy arbitration) and teaches annual courses at Queen’s University (international commercial arbitration) and Université de Paris-Assas (international construction contracts).

He holds a number of leadership positions in arbitral bodies. Among other things, he is Vice-Chair of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR, and a member of the KCAB International Court of Arbitration.
