Maxi Scherer is a Professor of Law at Queen Mary University of London, where she holds the Chair for International Arbitration, Dispute Resolution and Energy Law. She is also co-founder of ArbBoutique and has practiced international arbitration for 25 years and represented clients, served as arbitrator or legal expert in more than 160 commercial and investor-state arbitrations.

She is the President of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) and holds many other public appointments and commissions of trust, including Vice-Chair of the IBA Arbitration Committee, member of the Governing Body of International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) and appointee to the ICSID panel of arbitrators. Maxi is regularly ranked by Chambers, Who’s Who Legal (Lexology), The Legal 500, BestLawyer etc. as leading arbitration practitioner and, since 2019, included in the selective highest category of “Global Elite Thought Leaders” in the field. Peers and clients describe her as “first-rate name” “who “combines strong judgement with a calm and controlled manner,” and “one of the very best in both commercial and investment arbitration proceedings.”

She received GAR Awards for Best Speech or Lecture in 2018, for Best Prepared Arbitrator in 2022 and Arbitration Lawyer of the Year in 2025.
