Description
Shanghai Arbitration Commission (SHAC) was established on September 18, 1995, by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government in accordance with the law. It is one of the first pilot arbitral institutions set up in China. In 2021, SHAC was restructured to be a non-profit legal person, and is committed to building a market-oriented, specialized and internationalized first-class arbitral institution that is nationally leading and internationally renowned.
SHAC provides professional, efficient, and confidential arbitration services catering to the parties' dispute resolution needs. Currently, its arbitration services cover finance, real estate, construction and engineering, intellectual property, maritime, sports, energy, trade, international arbitration, aviation, corporate and investment, and other civil and commercial areas. By the end of 2025, SHAC has cumulatively administered approximately 78,000 contractual disputes, with a total amount in dispute of over RMB 410 billion, with a significant proportion of cases involving elements outside the administrative jurisdiction of Shanghai. In 2025, SHAC accepted 8,550 cases, achieving a 6.25% year-on-year increase; the total amount in dispute reached RMB 50.11 billion, achieving a 5.04% year-on-year increase; a total of 135 foreign-related cases were accepted throughout the year, marking a 31.07% year-on-year growth; the case conclusion and acceptance ratio reached 101.1%.
