Iain Potter is a Chartered Accountant qualified in the UK (ICAEW) and Singapore (ISCA), specializing in the quantification of economic damages and the valuation of businesses and intellectual property for international arbitration. Based in Singapore since 2014, he works across Asia and globally. He is ranked in Band 1 by Chambers & Partners and has been recognised as a Global Elite Thought Leader by Lexology (formerly Who’s Who Legal) for his expert witness work in arbitration and commercial litigation.

Iain is most often engaged as a party-appointed quantum expert in complex commercial disputes. He has been appointed in proceedings under SIAC, ICC, LCIA, JCAA, and PCA rules and has been cross-examined in over 35 cases. His matters span a wide range of industries and geographies.

His work typically addresses loss-of-profit claims, disputed business valuations, and accounting issues, including interest and foreign exchange considerations and the application of GAAP/IFRS. In addition to testifying, Iain accepts expert determination instructions and mediator appointments in financial and accounting disputes.

Iain’s practice is informed by ongoing research into damages theory. He is currently undertaking a PhD examining how tribunals reflect risk and uncertainty when assessing quantum, and he brings that analytical approach to clear, transparent reports designed to assist counsel and the tribunal
