Cedric was a partner for over 25 years at Morrison & Foerster and led its international litigation and arbitration practice from 1996 to 2013. From 2013 to 2019, Cedric served as the U.S. head of the global international arbitration practice of DLA Piper. Since 2019, he has acted as an arbitrator of international and domestic commercial disputes.
Cedric has handled over thirty arbitrations as chair, wing, and sole arbitrator under the rules of the ICC, SIAC, ICDR, and AAA. The parties before him represent a multitude of industries from all over the world, with the disputes touching many subjects and ranging up to $300 million.
Cedric is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the College of Commercial Arbitrators, the American Law Institute, and Litigation Counsel of America. Global Arbitration Review and Who's Who Legal: Arbitration rank him as a "U.S. Thought Leader" in arbitration. He is the former chair of the U.S. Magistrate Judge Screening Committee of the Northern District of California and the former Ninth Circuit member on the ABA Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary.
Cedric has been first chair advocate in 5 cases where the disputed amount exceeded $1 billion and in multiple others in the hundreds of millions of dollars. In addition to trial court and arbitration advocacy, Cedric has argued 20 times in the US appellate courts. He is a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School.
