Geir Marelsson is the General Counsel at Landsvirkjun, the National Power Company of Iceland. Landsvirkjun generates 100% renewable energy from hydro, geothermal, and wind sources. Geir holds a law degree from the University of Iceland and has also studied law at Aarhus University in Denmark. Over the course of nearly two decades, Geir has built deep expertise in energy and natural resources law, with a strong focus on the legal frameworks that govern the development and operation of renewable energy projects. His experience spans all key phases of project development—including permitting, procurement processes, and contract negotiation—construction law and disputes – across geothermal, hydropower, and wind energy. In addition, Geir has been actively involved in drafting power purchase agreements, handling insurance-related legal matters, and managing dispute resolution.
