Mediation and Arbitration Center Mauritius
Description
The Mediation and Arbitration Center (Mauritius) Ltd ("MARC") provides professional case administration for both arbitration and mediation, serving domestic and international users across Africa, Europe, Asia and beyond.
It has administered arbitrations dating back to 1855, under the auspices of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry ("MCCI"). Over the years, MARC has evolved into a well-established, autonomous, non-governmental dispute resolution centre based in Mauritius.
Situated in a unique hybrid legal jurisdiction, Mauritius combines both common law and civil law traditions, making it particularly well suited to the resolution of disputes involving parties from different legal backgrounds. Reflecting this legal heritage, MARC administers arbitration and mediation proceedings in both English and French.
In 2017, MARC strengthened its institutional framework through the establishment of the MARC Court, comprising 17 eminent arbitration practitioners and currently presided over by Mr Neil Kaplan CBE KC SBS, together with an Advisory Board of 16 distinguished experts in the field of arbitration, currently chaired by Dr Jalal El Ahdab.
Since 2014, MARC has administered more than 40 arbitration cases, approximately 30% of which have been international in nature, with an average amount in dispute of approximately USD 5 million.
In 2025, MARC further strengthened its ADR framework with the launch of the MARC Mediation Rules 2025, reaffirming its commitment to providing modern, efficient and internationally recognised dispute resolution services.
